
2012 Pop Top golf results
15 pop toppers teed off in our annual golf event this year. Br. Bill Bowers Sr. provided his annual salute to start the festivities which this year included a return appearance by Brs. David Chace and Gerry Miller after several decades of each not playing in the event. It was over heard that the fear of a repeat of the naked golf episode kept them away. I can happily report despite no better reason to shed damp clothing Shandra the waitress “no rain dance” ($1 bills were optional) prevailed on mother nature unlike the movie caddy shack the “heavy stuff” waited until our round was complete. So welcome back guys and from the arm full of prizes carried out by Br. Chace it appears in true pop top fashion it is truly better to be lucky at the raffle than it is to be good at golf. Thanks to the contributed prizes from Brs. Ray Marshall, Dennis Pelletier and to Josh Ratner for the Belvedere merchandise, the raffle helped us reach break even for the event. Josh I’m sure Dennis Pelletier having won the Belvedere bag will order his next martini with your vodka so there is value to your promotion budget!! As for the golf…Congratulations to Team Millard, Brs. Bob and Bruce for the first time in the history of the Pop Top won the gold medal… and by the way kept their clothes on… Team Millard coached by Br. Pat “Claydo” Clays even more amazingly dressed himself and even remembered a pair of socks this year! The winning team of the Millards, Claydo and yours truly posted a 6 under par round, with the rest of the field all closely matched coming in near to even par. Congratulations also to Ray Marshall for winning the drive closest to the line, Pat Clays for closest to the pin and yours truly for longest drive. Pop Top quiz: You know you have become a Phi Psi fossil when a) no one remembers when the 1st pop top event was held. b) you don’t remember how many pop top’s you have played in. c) no one in the room has their reading glasses so the raffle tickets get passed around until someone can read the numbers or d) all of the above…correct answer to be given at Founder’s dinner February 8th 2013 see you all there. Beta rumor mill has it that the group photo of the event is headed to National for publication in the Shield so watch your mail.
